What Can Be Done About Missing Teeth
Missing teeth can not only affect your smile, but can interfere with your speech, reduce your efficiency in chewing and lead to loss of facial muscle support, which
can make you look older than you are. On top of all that, the tooth opposing the missing one is no longer held down by the missing tooth and can start to move upward, and the teeth around the missing one can start to tilt. Your bite can also change to the point that you can start having jaw problems.
Dentures or bridges are the least expensive option, but they have a few large drawbacks. First, they are not permanent and so can move during the act of chewing or talking, causing embarrassment. Second, they need to be removed and cleaned on a regular basis which is an additional chore that takes time. And, finally, they are placed over the gums and are not attached to the jaw bone, so you can start to lose bone in the affected area.
Dental implants, on the other hand, solve all three of these problems. They are permanent and will never move. This also means you never have to take them out and clean them. Since they are permanently installed with an artificial root, they eventually bond with the jaw and form a very strong base.
A newer alternative to regular dental implants is the mini implant. As the name implies, these implants are smaller and are often an ideal solution for replacement of a single tooth. The healing time is much less as is the procedure for installing them. Mini implants can also be used in conjunction with bridges or dentures to provide secure anchors so slippage is not as much of a problem.
The bottom line is that you don’t have to put up with the embarrassment and inconvenience of missing teeth. We can determine the best course of action and, before you know it, completely restore your beautiful smile!
